Israel restricts Palestinian freedom of movement in the occupied West Bank by enforcing a system of fixed checkpoints. Palestinians have to sometimes spend hours each day waiting at these checkpoints. In April 2015 there were 96 checkpoints in the occupied West Bank.
Israeli checkpoints make it hard for Palestinians to live normal lives and to get from one place to another without being physically harassed. Israel also puts up surprise flying checkpoints along the occupied West Bank roads to make life even more difficult for Palestinians. In 2015 the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) counted 361 flying checkpoints.
