The 31-year-old Portuguese player is starring in a new Israeli advert alongside three Israeli comedians. Ronaldo himself promoted the advert yesterday on his twitter saying, “There are rumors that I’m going to be a star in Israel. Not in soccer…In a HOT commercial.”

Although the tweet was liked by thousands of people, not everyone was happy with Ronaldo’s advert. One twitter user commented, “You spelled ‘Occupied Palestine’ kinda weird there.” While others used the hashtag #FreePalestine to make it clear that by supporting Israel Ronaldo will lose many fans from across the world, especially in Arab countries.

Israel is using celebrities to try and cover up its illegal occupation and violations of international law. Despite Israel’s efforts, the international community is well aware of Israel’s crimes and Israel cannot stop the growing support for the BDS movement.
