15-year-old Palestinian killed by Israeli occupational forces by ‘mistake’

June 21, 2016 /

Israeli occupation forces shot and killed 15-year-old Mahmoud Raafat Badran and severely injured four other Palestinian teens early Tuesday morning. According to local Palestinian sources the five Palestinians teens were travelling in a car between Beit Ur al-Tahta and the village of Beit Sira when Israeli forces attacked the vehicle with live fire, killing one and injuring four.

The incident happened after reports that Palestinian youth had been throwing stones at settlers. Israeli media outlets were quick to depict 15-year-old Mahmoud Raafat Badran as a “terrorist” but he was later revealed to be completely innocent bystander.

An investigation is still underway but as we have seen in previous cases, it is unlikely that the Israeli occupational forces will be prosecuted for killing an innocent Palestinian.

Since October 2015, some 220 Palestinians have been shot and killed by Israeli soldiers, settlers and even civilians. In the same period, under 30 Israelis have been killed by Palestinians. Of those killed, many were accused of attempting to attack Israeli soldiers despite no evidence being provided. Many teenagers have been shot and killed at checkpoints, which has been documented by human rights groups. This is the cycle of violence which has persisted as a direct result of the occupation and Israel’s oppressive and violent policies.
