Palestine Expo – The Show Will Go Ahead
On 8th and 9th July the Queen Elizabeth II Centre is due to host the biggest Palestine Event in Europe.
FOA booked the venue in January 2017. But Mr Sajid Javid Minister for the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) waited until 16th June 2017, to write to us to say he ‘is minded’ to restrict the QEII centre from hosting Palestine Expo.
Elements of the pro-Israel lobby have been working hard to undermine the event, making false and baseless allegations against FOA and those supporting the event. The QEII venue management carried out a second due diligence exercise in response to the allegations and concluded that it was happy for Palestine Expo to take place.
Mr Sajid Javid’s lawyers wrote on 23rd June, with 15 days to go stating he is to make a decision soon.
Ismail Patel, Chairman of Friends of Al-Aqsa stated ‘we are determined to host Palestine Expo and are looking forward to welcoming everyone to the Queen Elizabeth II Centre. If Mr Javid interferes and attempts to stop us from using the QEII we are ready to go to court for a Judicial Review to ensure Palestine Expo goes ahead. Having spoken to our lawyers we are confident the DCLG is unlawfully interfering with Palestine Expo.’
We invite everyone who wishes to see peace in Palestine and champion freedom of speech to attend Palestine Expo.
