Israeli authorities have been accused of ‘persistent unwillingness’ to conduct investigations ‘into grave incidents of suspected war crimes against unarmed Palestinian civilians’ a prominent human rights organisation has told the UN inquiry into the violence.
Adalah’s report submitted to the Independent Commission of Inquiry on the 2018 Protests in the Occupied Palestinian Territory highlighted a serious lack of accountability with regard to the violence against the 2018 Gaza protests and the 2014 Gaza war.
According to Adalah, Israel has failed to conduct ‘genuine investigations’ on the matter, leaving the need for genuine accountability and remedies for the Palestinian victims of IDF violence in Gaza this year. The death toll is widely believed to be in excess of 160, including a journalist and a medic.
Along with Al-Mezan Centre for Human Rights, Adalah has filed complaints into 28 violations of international law – some of which amounted to war crimes. Only three investigations have been opened. You can about this story here.
