FOA calls for Starmer to make statement on hiring an Israeli Spy

January 22, 2021 /

Friends of Al-Aqsa is concerned at the revelation that an individual working with Israeli military intelligence’s Unit 8200 has been employed to work in the Office of the Labour Leader, Keir Starmer. Unit 8200 has been reported to specialise in spying, hacking and encryption. It carries out blackmail, mass surveillance and systematic discrimination against Palestinians.

The Guardian and other international media have reported Israeli military intelligence officers routinely target “innocent Palestinians”.

The employment by the Labour Leaders Office of an individual linked with Israel’s military intelligence for nearly 5 years raises significant concerns of why and how this individual was selected.

In the interest of democratic transparency, ethical foreign policy and security of Labour membership, Friends of Al-Aqsa is writing to Keir Starmer requesting a public statement on the appointment.

Keir Starmer needs to clarify his position of impartiality on the Middle East politics and the ethics of hiring an intelligence officer of a foreign country that violates International Laws, Geneva Conventions and UN Resolutions.
