BDS motion at City must be respected by Board of Trustees

December 2, 2021 /

FOA welcomes the motion on BDS passed at the Student Members’ Meeting at City, University of London yesterday.

93% of student members voted in favour of BDS, the movement calling for boycotts, divestment and economic sanctions on Israel for its ongoing crimes of apartheid and persecution against Palestinians.

The Board of Trustees must now respect this democratic vote. Investigations into City’s links and complicit investments in Israeli apartheid must begin immediately.

Shaima, City’s Student Union President adds that “yesterday’s 93% result shows huge support among City students for divestment from Israel. Once again, City students have reaffirmed their commitments towards the liberation of Palestine and towards decolonisation. This is a landmark step for the Palestinian movement at City, and it’s important that as students, our vote is now actioned. We hope to see action from the Trustees in the next few days”.

The motion is supported by FOA’s #Divest4Palestine campaign, which calls on City to sever its ties with BAE Systems. BAE works with Rafael to produce the naval Protestor drone, used to maintain the blockade of Gaza which breaches the Fourth Geneva Convention.

Congratulations to students at City for this great work for Palestine. FOA will stand with you until your democratic vote is respected.
