I hope you are well. I am sure you will be aware of the Israeli government’s latest attacks on Palestinian civil society, and the shocking attempt to silence critics of human rights abuses, with the designation of 6 Palestinian NGOs (including human rights groups) as “terrorist organisations”.

This designation increases the risks of detention and harassment for these human rights defenders, and international attention and support is essential.

It would be impossible to understand what is happening on the ground to Palestinians, were it not for these organisations – which many Parliamentarians will have met on delegations and received briefings from (as have governments and parliamentarians from across Europe too). Their role in Palestinian society and among human rights defenders more generally, is integral.  The groups in question are:

Al-Haq, a human rights group founded in 1979

Addameer

Defence for Children International – Palestine

The Bisan Center for Research and Development

The Union of Palestinian Women’s Committeese

The Union of Agricultural Work Committees.

We urge Yourself, Parliamentarians and The UK government to pledge and demonstrate concrete support for Palestinian civil society in the vicious scenario of shrinking space in which they operate. The lived realities of Palestinians living under a brutal occupation are worsening, not least as many Palestinians have been subjected to increasing Israeli settler violence and terror. Such settler attacks are carried out with impunity.

We urge you to:

  • Raise these concerns in Parliament.
  • Release a statement of support for the six organisations.

Thanking you in anticipation of a satisfactory response

This is a great way to keep up to date on all our activities and news on Palestine

Story

Support the six Palestinian organisations campaigning for human rights.

In October, Israel designated six important Palestinian human rights organisations as terrorist groups. This is an extremely concerning attack on Palestinian civil society. These organisations record human rights violations, strengthen democracy and protect children, women and farmers in occupied Palestine.

Israel’s decision has been denounced by the UN and leading human rights groups. UN experts have described it as an ‘attack… on human rights everywhere’ and Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have said it is ‘appalling and unjust’. It is a worrying attempt to silence those whose work exposes the apartheid policies of Israel*.

What can I do?
