BBC Bias Reporting: Take Action

The BBC over the past seven months has been accused of bias reporting against the Palestinians. It now appears the BBC has a case to answer.

The BBC on Tuesday 28th May 2024 reported the Rafah massacre as:

“Despite the appalling scenes from last night, Israeli ground forces still appear to be acting somewhat cautiously as they edge closer to the city of Rafah itself. Their operations so far have not resulted in a bloodbath.”

Researchers also looked at thousands of online articles and posts from the BBC between October 7 and December 2 and found:

“a systematic disparity in how Palestinian and Israeli deaths are treated by the BBC, with words such as murder, massacre, and slaughter almost exclusively being linked to Israeli deaths”.

Further, in late November some of the BBC’s journalists accused the BBC of dehumanising the Palestinians in their reporting.

Please write to the BBC now complaining why:

There is no doubt many of the attacks on Gaza are reported directly from the perspective of the Israeli army and some of the BBC headlines are worded like how Netanyahu would have dictated.

The BBC has failed to be balanced, report with evidence and remained bias. They have consistently provided an Israeli narrative. The BBC has failed to inform the viewers Israel will not allow them to enter Gaza and has used language that dehumanises Palestinians.

How can you take action against the BBC?

Lack of impartial reporting regarding Palestine

  • Type your complaint. Example:

I wish to complain about the BBC’s biased TV, website, and radio coverage of the genocide in Gaza.

According to ICJ, Israel is plausible committing a genocide in Gaza. The BBC has reduced the attacks on civilians as a war against Hamas – this is an Israeli narrative.

The BBC has termed the killing of Palestinians as “deaths”. The BBC has failed to provide the context of 76 years of Israeli occupation, Israeli discriminatory policies and 17 years of Israeli siege of Gaza.

The use of language such as “clashes”, “war” and “deaths” is misinforming and misleading the public on the context of Israeli actions.

I thus urge you to hold an immediate inquiry into the language used, the lack of context, the failure to state the BBC is denied entry into Gaza by Israel and repeated use of Israeli spokesperson in your reporting.

The BBC platforms must commit to presenting Israeli transgressions with the accuracy that is the bedrock of fair, independent and evidence based reporting.
