Dear Foreign Secretary,

I am writing to urge you to call for British journalist Sami Hamdi’s immediate release.

Hamdi was detained by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents at San Francisco International Airport on Sunday, October 26.

It is incumbent on you to demand the immediate release of Sami Hamdi, a British journalist who has not violated any laws.

Hamdi has been a champion of justice and upholding international law. It appears his highlighting of the genocide in Gaza is the cause for his abduction.

Highlighting the genocide in Gaza should not mean you should be held unjustly and threatened with deportation. This is a serious violation of the freedom of speech that both the US and UK claim to protect.

I call for you to

  • Raise Hamdi’s case in Parliament

  • Offer consular assistance to Hamdi

  • Call for him to be released

British journalist Sami Hamdi was detained by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents at San Francisco.

Hamdi is a well-respected and prominent Muslim journalist who has been outspoken in his criticism of Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian people.

He spoke at the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) conference in Sacramento, California, on Saturday and was scheduled to speak at their Florida event on Sunday.

Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin posted on X that Hamdi’s visa had been revoked and that he is currently awaiting deportation.

Abducting a journalist is a blatant attempt to stifle the so-called free speech protected under America’s First Amendment right. It is evident that Trump’s “crackdown” on free speech disproportionately targets those who criticise Israel.
